The season is over, this calls for a celebration
It’s official, our Play Better teams, from the lower mainland region, have finished their first full season in our program. As a fellow coach, this calls for a wee bit of a celebration. Time to kick up the feet and watch live Saturday morning footy on the tube. No longer will I fear the wee lads accidentally spilling the scores, while I go about my coaching routine. Countless times I would roll up to the field, only to hear one of the kids spoiling the score of the latest Gunners game. Yes that’s right, I’m a proud gunners fan indeed. A true Gooner.
Enough of the Gunner talk for now, let’s have a real quick chat about the season that was.
I can honestly say my teams performances were dramatically impacted by Play Better philosophies. The number of passes and decision making opportunities in each match were staggering and, for the most part, far outweighed our oppositions.
But, I think my favourite part of this season was seeing the kids being more concerned with the number of passes and pass completion %, in our matches, then the actual score. This was a huge win! The parents on our team we’re also educated, throughout the season, on what development really looks like.
We have a long ways to go, but I am so proud of all the coaches, teams, and families who have partaken in our program. The lower mainland teams have raised over $12,000 and directly impacted over 25 various charities. This all in micro donations, that we’re simply earned, by children playing soccer properly.
As the Play Better program continues to grow so will the number of charities, families and players impacted. Every weekend Millions of children play sports across our country. Play Better believes that we should be using this vehicle to go out there and make a difference, creating better players, people and, communities, is the true power of sport.
To all the coaches, families, and players, thank you all so much.
